When Does Your Child Need to Visit an Ophthalmologist?

Vision development is critical from early childhood. The first eye screening is recommended:

  • Between 6–12 months of age
  • At age 3 — to check for strabismus and amblyopia
  • At age 5–6 — before starting school

Additional visits may be necessary if your child:

  • Squints or turns their head to see
  • Tilts their head
  • Holds books or screens too close
  • Frequently rubs their eyes or complains of eye fatigue

Regular check-ups help prevent amblyopia and slow myopia progression.
